Project Proposal

Student ID: 34475138

I am proposing the development of an online platform to showcase and potentially setup a store for my sister’s (Breanna) sublimation printing and design business named Breannimals. I will use this webserver as a photo gallery, blog, and future shop. It will linked to all her social media pages in various forms and will hopefully engage the user with her talents.

The Webserver will hopefully serve as a central hub for Breanna’s business and allow her to establish a distinct identity among her audience. Previously the business has operated on Facebook.

The three main goals of the webserver are:

I will utilize WordPress via the Apache webserver software. The Apache service is being run on an Ubuntu 23 IaaS webserver through Vultr. I chose Vultr to host the cloud server as there was an offering for $200 credit and it is one of the cheapest cloud service providers.

I will focus on key features such as seamless integration, a user-friendly environment and performance optimizations. The webserver will be hosted one of the cheapest plans for the development, but future upgrades will be made if required (currently 1 vCPU, 1024mb RAM, 25gb SSD).

I believe that this online platform will be a valuable asset for my sister. Breanna has diagnosed autism and ADHD and requires a lot of support. Creating this webserver for her is one way I can show my support. I hope this project will bring further opportunities to her business.

License Rationale

I’ve chosen to use open-source software for my project such as WordPress (GNU General Public License), Apache (Apache License 2.0), and Ubuntu (GNU General Public License). Open-source software allows me to customize and extend the functionality of these tools to meet the specific needs of the project. Any original content produced on this site will be licensed under creative commons. Embracing open-source principles aligns with my sister’s values of accessibility and inclusivity. With open-source software I can create a robust web platform for my sister’s business without incurring significant licensing fees.
